Tom’s dance improvisation classes come in 2 parts, part one is inspired by the gaga technique and lasts for 30-45 minutes of continuous dance/ movement/ research.
This form offers a framework for participants to connect to their bodies through their imagination. The class is designed to allow participants
to explore physical sensations and connect to the pleasure of moving to music and find their groove, whist growing in awareness and multi sensory
connection during a physically challenging experience.
Whilst the instruction will be verbally guided and physically shared by Tom these instructions can be individually interpreted in the moment. The improvisational nature of the exploration enables each participant’s deeply personal connection with the dance in a stress-free and welcoming class atmosphere.
In part 2 of each class Tom will share a sensory lead more specific and focussed improvisational ideas from his own choreographic practice.
Classes are open to people ages 16+, regardless of their background in dance or movement.
Participants should wear comfortable clothes and be prepared to dance barefoot or in socks.
It is advisable to bring a bottle of water and a towel for use after class.
Tom has been a professional dance artist for over 20 years working as a performer, teacher and choreographer.
As a dance artist Tom is as much interested in the empirical knowledge built up by the moving body through movement practices,
as he is in the crafting and weaving of art forms with new technologies to create contemporary performance.
Tom is a graduate from Trinity Laban conservatoire of dance and music where he won the Centre’s Award for Outstanding Achievement in Choreography.
He went on to dance with leading choreographers and companies including Mathew Bourne’s New Adventures,
before focusing on creating his own work and forming Tom Dale Company.
