New Town 2050 - Louise Watts

“Play can [also] reawaken our ability to think positively about the future.” - Rob Hopkins From What Is to What If: Unleashing the Power of the Imagination to Create the Future We Want

In this workshop we will set out, together, to imagine a town 30 years in the future.
We will take it step by step, first imagining our future selves, our homes and then connecting with nearby neighbours to come up with some ideas to
address issues and cultivate a joyful, stainable future, filled with happy people within the community.
We will fill our community with ideas and then - at a town hall meeting - share our ideas with others in this future community.
Louise will be running a workshop like this tailored to adults and another tailored to children.

The quote above is from the book where I first read about this exercise; which helps us to imagine a better future for us all.
Ruth Ben-Tovim and others created a workshop just like this called ‘Transition Town Anywhere’ for over 300 people at Battersea Arts Centre
and many of the ideas put together that day ended up turning into real community projects, effecting positive change for hundreds of people.
The only way to feel better about the bad around us is through action, but action all starts with ideas, and ideas are born in our imaginations.

About Louise

Louise has been coming to workshop festivals just like this one since she was just 8 years old.
She has benefitted so much from the communal sharing of wisdom and now it's time for her to give back!
She works as a multidisciplinary artist teaching Drama; Designing and Making Costumes; Hair, Makeup and wigs; Illustrating and Performing.
Her LAMDA Drama classes get her kids through their exams with flying colours but even more importantly help them to become the confident adults
of the future who are quick on their toes at problem solving using their imaginations.
Louise believes that learning by playing together is not only fun but of vital importance to the future, our connection to nature and our connection to each other.
She hopes she can inspire others to feel the same way.
